The most popular time to visit the shrine of the Sufi saint and poet Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai (1689-1752) is during the annual Urs that takes place. Mian Ghulam Shah Kalhoro died in 1772 whose rule began in 1757 when he was appointed ruler of Sind by tribal Chiefs of kalhora replacing his brother Mian Muradyab Kalhoro. The beautiful buildings contained in the compound feature exquisite tile and mirror work. The shrine has been extended and refurbished over the years following the original construction. Mian Mustafa Khan Kalhoro, the ruler of Sind, first built the shrine in 1772. The shrine an annual Urs festival that attracts up to 500,000 visitors over the course of three days, the festival commemorates Shah Abdul Latif's death by means of celebration, as his death is regarded to be a union with God During the Urs, the shrine is bustling with devotees and there is hardly any space to move. The Urs commences every year from 14th Safar for three days. Shah Abdul Latif of Bhittai was a very great Sindhi Poet and his art in one sense is "Impressionist par excellence".
